Thursday, September 22nd, 2011: Hot Bat of Hook Burns Speed
It was a sensational day at the plate for Wesley Hook, but a letdown as well as the Cocks dropped the game 12-10 to the Speed.

Nonetheless the San Antonio left fielder was pure misery for the Salt Lake City pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 6 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.

"It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win. That's the important thing," Hook said.

The manager for the Speed told SION reporters after the game, "Hook put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw him some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."

W. Hook singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off C. Cunningham in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off A. Piatt in the 8th, flied out in the 9th and walked in the 12th.

This season Hook is batting .341 with 159 hits and 35 home runs. He has scored 101 times and has 91 runs batted in.
Sunday, September 18th, 2011: 5-6 Day for Hutchins
What a day for Bill Hutchins of the Salt Lake City Speed! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday. He ripped Washington, D.C. pitching apart at Tribune Field. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-6. But the Shadow spoiled his party by winning the game 7-6.

The Salt Lake City shortstop confessed, "I would have much preferred getting a couple of hits and winning the game to this. It's hard to enjoy anything when you lose."

His skipper said, "It's a shame that we couldn't have won the game. A guy gets a once-in-a-lifetime game and can't really enjoy it."

But he was upbeat enough to talk about his basic theory of hitting. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Hutchins told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."

B. Hutchins singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th and singled in the 10th.

This season Hutchins is batting .333 with 75 RBIs, 111 runs scored and 19 home runs.
Wednesday, September 14th, 2011: Injury Takes Toll, Stanton Out 4 Weeks
Arch Stanton at first refused to leave today's Nashville-Salt Lake City game after he suffered a inguinal hernia while running the bases. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Salt Lake City catcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Stanton out of action for 4 weeks.

To date this year Stanton is batting .308 with 17 home runs.
